An Audiobook Journey

I don’t narrate a lot of books. I’m very selective, but when offered the narration for Britfield and the Lost Crown, I felt I had to take the opportunity. It grabbed me for so many reasons. 50 hours of recording, editing and pickups later, over the course of 2 months, I had helped this story become an audiobook.
It’s an amazing experience to be a part of making the author’s vision for a story, come alive.

“Britfield and the Lost Crown” is an audiobook narration I did for author C.R. Stewart, who is a strong supporter of education and the arts. The book is a rollicking adventure story, that takes the reader/listener on an educational whistle-stop tour of the UK. It combines wonderful storytelling with an educational undercurrent. An aspect that resonated strongly with me, as I originally started a career as a teacher when I was younger. There are beautiful maps in the front of the book showing some of the key locations, which was a bit like going home for me. I have either lived, worked or been to most of them. I was born in London, went to college in Canterbury, Lived and worked in Liverpool, Manchester, Oxford and the Cotswolds, and am familiar with Windsor Castle.

The opportunity to narrate a book visiting so many familiar places was too enticing to ignore.

These books are an excellent way to teach children about geography in an entertaining way.

I enjoy creating characters and the travelogue of this book gave me a wonderful opportunity to bring into being, so many characters with varying accents and personalities: Speckle (North), Sarah (Scottish), Gowerstone (RP) and a plethora of minor characters from all over the UK including Liverpool, London, and the Midlands and even one from Russia!

If you read, or listen, to "Britfield and the Lost Crown" and enjoy it, I am delighted to tell you that it is the first in a five-book series with next summer, the second book being released, “Britfield & the Rise of the Lion” featuring adventures in France.

The author is currently doing virtual Britfield Creativity & Writing School Tours and is also planning to turn the books into major motion pictures. (Chad, I want to play Speckle please!)

This book has clearly resonated with young and teen readers alike given the number of awards it has received!

What an additional honor then to find that my narration has been nominated in both the Best Voiceover Audiobook Narration in Children – Infant to 12 and Best Voiceover Audiobook Narration Teen for the SOVAS 2020 Awards. Winners for these awards will be announced Sunday, December 6th, 2020 so watch this space!
